SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba County — The administration, faculty, staff, students, and wider academic community of Nimba University are mourning the death of Mr. Paye G.K. Kwiti, Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration, who died on Friday afternoon, August 14, 2026.
Family sources and Nimba University confirmed his death in a social media announcement, describing his passing as a significant loss to the institution and those who knew him.
According to information gathered from family sources, Kwiti reportedly collapsed at home on Friday and was subsequently rushed to the G.W. Harley Hospital in Sanniquellie, where he later died.
The circumstances surrounding his death remain unclear, and the specific cause had not been publicly established yet. Further medical assessment is expected to determine the cause of death.
His sudden passing has sent shockwaves across the Nimba University community, where he was known for his administrative leadership, academic commitment, and efforts to contribute to the growth of the College of Business and Public Administration.
In a message of condolence, the university community extended its deepest sympathies to Kwiti’s family, relatives, colleagues, friends, and other loved ones, describing his death as an irreplaceable loss to the institution.
The university said his dedication to education and his commitment to imparting knowledge had made a lasting contribution to the academic community.
Mr. Paye G.K. Kwiti was a Liberian academic administrator and economist who served as Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration at Nimba University.
He earned a bachelor’s degree in Economics/Demography from the University of Liberia and pursued further studies at the African Methodist Episcopal University (AMEU).
Before becoming Dean, Kwiti served as General Controller of Nimba University, where he was involved in the institution’s financial administration and the implementation of financial policies and procedures.
As Dean of the College of Business and Public Administration, he provided leadership over several academic departments, including Accounting, Economics, Management, and Public Administration.
During his tenure, he was credited by the university community with contributing to increased student enrollment and the academic development of the college.
His responsibilities also placed him at the center of efforts to strengthen academic programs, support students and faculty, and advance the college’s contribution to professional and public-sector development in Liberia.
Kwiti’s death comes as a major loss to Nimba University, particularly at a time when the institution continues to expand its academic programs and strengthen its role in providing higher education opportunities in southeastern Liberia.
As tributes continue to emerge, colleagues, students, friends, and members of the university community are expected to remember him for his service to education, institutional leadership, and commitment to developing young Liberian professionals.
Funeral arrangements and other details concerning his burial are expected to be announced by his family.
