
The remains of the Deputy Chief Clerk of the Honorable House of Representatives, Hon. Cormicks Chea, were laid in state at the main entrance of the rotunda of the Capitol Building on Thursday, June 12, 2025, as a mark of honor and respect for his dedicated service to the Legislature and the Liberian people.
In statement from the House Press Bureau, the solemn occasion was led by House Speaker Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, accompanied by an array of lawmakers, staffers, and dignitaries who gathered to pay their final respects to a public servant described as diligent, humble, and professional.
Speaking on behalf of the House of Representatives, Deputy Speaker Hon. Thomas P. Fallah described the late Chea as a humble public servant who executed his duties with professionalism, passion, and respect. Deputy Speaker Fallah further noted that the loss of Mr. Chea has left a deep void in the daily operations of the Houseโs Secretariat and the broader workings of the Legislature.
โHis sudden and untimely passing has brought profound grief to members of the House, the staff, and all who knew and loved him,โ Fallah said.
The President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Sen. Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, also led a delegation of Senators to the state viewing. Senator Francis Dopoe of River Gee County, speaking on behalf of the Senate, expressed deep sadness over the passing of Hon. Chea.
Sen. Dopoe praised the late Deputy Chief Clerk as hardworking, resourceful, and experienced in legislative affairs, adding that his knowledge and guidance left a lasting impression on both legislative procedures and individual political careers.
โHis experience in the Legislature was unmatched, and his commitment to national duty was second to none,โ Sen. Dopoe averred.
The funeral service for the late Hon. Cormicks Chea is scheduled for Saturday, June 14, 2025, at the St. Moses Funeral Home, along the Japanese Highway.
Hon. Chea passed away on Sunday, June 1, 2025, at the Catholic Hospital following a brief illness.
In recognition of his outstanding service to the nation, the Government of Liberia, through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, will issue an Official Gazette and confer honors befitting his stature as a dedicated servant of the state.
The Legislature, staff, and people of Liberia mourn the loss of a man whose legacy will be remembered for years to come.
