The Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus of Liberia has welcomed and strongly commended the recent statement by Hon. Richard Nagbe Koon, Speaker of the House of Representatives, during the official launch of the Mano River Union (MRU) Parliament. In his remarks, Speaker Koon highlighted the vital but often under recognized role of women across the MRU region.

โ€œAcross the Mano River region, women are driving informal economies, sustaining families, leading community peace efforts, and advocating for justice,โ€ Speaker Koon said. โ€œYet, too often, they remain underrepresented in decision-making, under protected in law, and underserved by public policy. This parliamentary body must commit to mainstreaming gender in all areas of legislative cooperationโ€”from security to trade, education to climate, youth empowerment to agriculture.โ€

Chairperson of the Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus, Hon. Ellen A. Attoh Wreh praised the Speakerโ€™s bold leadership and unwavering commitment to gender inclusion. โ€œWe commend Speaker Koon for championing the womenโ€™s agenda at the sub-regional level,โ€ she stated. โ€œHis voice reinforces the urgent need for inclusive governance and policy reforms that benefit women across Liberia and the entire Mano River Union.โ€

Hon. Attoh Wreh further acknowledged Speaker Koonโ€™s recent remarks at the close of the 2nd Quarter Session of the House of Representatives, in which he proposed the creation of ten additional seats exclusively for women and persons with disabilities.

โ€œThis is a significant step forward for political inclusiveness and gender equality,โ€ Hon. Attoh Wreh said. โ€œThe Womenโ€™s Caucus remains focused and committed to working with our colleagues in Parliament and the wider society to ensure that these reforms become a reality.โ€

The Womenโ€™s Legislative Caucus reaffirmed its dedication to advocating for policies that uplift women and ensure their full participation in national and regional decision-making processes.
