-To Boost Domestic and International Travel

Monrovia, Liberia – In a major stride toward modernizing Liberia’s aviation sector, the Ministry of Transport has finalized negotiations with South Korea’s MAKE Group to acquire five state-of-the-art commercial aircraft. This landmark agreement aims to revolutionize domestic and international air travel while positioning Liberia as a competitive player in regional aviation.
The deal, announced during a high-level meeting at the Ministry of Transport headquarters on June 4, 2025, includes three aircraft dedicated to domestic routes and two reserved for executive charter services. This initiative is set to enhance connectivity between Liberia’s counties, addressing long-standing transportation challenges and fostering economic integration.
Mr. Lee Ji-hoon, CEO of MAKE Group, reaffirmed his company’s commitment to Liberia’s infrastructural growth, stating, “This partnership reflects our confidence in Liberia’s potential. We are not just providing aircraft—we are investing in the nation’s future by improving mobility and trade.”
Beyond fleet expansion, MAKE Group has pledged technical and financial support to upgrade Roberts International Airport (RIA) in alignment with International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) standards. The modernization project will enhance safety, efficiency, and passenger experience, positioning RIA as a key hub for West African travel and commerce.
Transport Minister Sirleaf Ralph Tyler hailed the collaboration as a “transformative milestone” for Liberia’s transportation network. “This initiative underscores our commitment to world-class infrastructure. With MAKE Group’s expertise and our government’s full support, we are paving the way for economic growth and regional connectivity, he declared.
The partnership signals a turning point for Liberia’s aviation industry, promising: Enhanced domestic travel, reducing reliance on road transport, Increased foreign investment through improved air logistics, and Job creation in aviation, hospitality, and maintenance sectors.
With MAKE Group’s investment and the Liberian government’s strategic vision, the nation is poised to reclaim its status as a key aviation player in West Africa.
