NIMBA COUNTY — The Ministry of National Defense-Liberia has announced full completion of major renovation works on the army’s Camp Grant Military Barracks in Sanniquellie, Nimba County.
The barracks buildings were renovated and are set to house soldiers again after a dedicatory ceremony scheduled in the coming days.
In a guided tour at the renovated barracks facility, several top officials of the ministry expressed excitement about the successful completion of the project, praised the Government of Liberian and donors for the support. With funding support from the Liberian Government, the state of the art military installation has 11 structures, a total of sixty two residential apartments sub divided into types B and C, is now ready to hold Nimba contingent soon to be dispatched in the county.
During the weekend, a high-power defense delegation comprising the Deputy Chief of Staff, Brigadier General Theophilus Dana, the 23rd Infantry Brigade Commander, Assistant Defence Ministers for Civil Works, and Public Affairs made final rounds of inspection of the facility. Others include the Office of Security Corporation (OSC) at the U.S Embassy, including the ECOWAS Advisory Training Team (EATT) and other senior officers of the Armed Forces.
While in the county, the delegation held talks with the county administration over plans to have the Commander-In-Chief of the Armed Forces dedicate the facility before this year’s official Independence Day celebration, but stressed that local residents who have encroached on military property must relocate before the dedication.
The renovation of military barracks across the country stands as a milestone in giving the men and women of the Armed Forces of Liberia a better and more dignified living condition as congestion of military barracks continues to be one of the longstanding challenges confronting the military.
