NIMBA COUNTY — A grand Thanksgiving and Honoring Reception has been scheduled for August 22-23, this weekend, in honor of His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr., the new Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia. The event celebrates Chief Justice Gbeisay’s mileston achievement and newdawn in Liberia Judiciary.
Chief Justice Gbeisay was nominated and confirmed by the Liberian Senate on July 17, 2025, following his appointment and commission by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai on August 15, 2025. He succeeds outgoing Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh, who retired at the age of 70. With this appointment, Chief Justice Gbeisay becomes the 27th Chief Justice of Liberia.
The Thanksgiving and Honoring Reception is organized by the 8th Judicial Circuit in collaboration with Friends of His Honor Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay, Sr. According to Judge Musa S. Sidibey, Program Committee Chairperson, the event will commence with the official arrival of the new Chief Justice in his home county, Nimba, on Friday, August 22, 2025, at 2:00 pm in Baila-Sokopa, located between Bong and Nimba Counties.
The indoor program will take place on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Peace Empire Hall in Gompa City, Nimba County. The event is expected to attract chiefs, elders, women, youths, students, and cultural artists from Nimba County respectively.
As a distinguished jurist with extensive experience in law and public service, Chief Justice Gbeisay holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Government/Public Administration and a Bachelor of Laws degree from the University of Liberia’s Louis Arthur Grimes School of Law.
Born on May 3, 1959, in Gompa City, Nimba County, Liberia, to Mr. Henry P. Quiqui and Madam Yah Domah, Chief Justice Gbeisay obtained his high school diploma from Dolo Memorial High School in Sanniquellie City and later earned a “B” certificate in Language Arts and Social Studies from the Kakata Rural Teacher’s Training Institute. Before his appointment as Chief Justice, Gbeisay served as Associate Justice of the Supreme Court — appointed in October 2022 — showcasing his dedication to upholding the rule of law and the Constitution.
