CHARLESVILLE, Liberia โ The National Public Health Institute of Liberia (NPHIL) has officially confirmed that all recent laboratory tests for Viral Haemorrhagic Fevers (VHF), including Ebola and Marburg, have returned negative results.
The announcement, made in a press release Wednesday evening, is aimed at reassuring the public amid heightened global awareness of infectious diseases. The tests, conducted using molecular PCR methodology at the NPHIL National Reference Laboratory, analyzed all specimens received by the institute.
“As of September 10, 2025, at 21:00 GMT, all specimens have demonstrated ‘NEGATIVE’ for Ebola and Marburg,” the institute stated. This result definitively rules out the presence of these specific deadly pathogens in the tested samples.
Consequently, NPHIL clarified that it “cannot confirm any suspected VHF case in Liberia” as of the time of the release. The institute emphasized that while the viruses that cause VHFs are naturally occurring in animals, its surveillance system remains vigilant.
NPHIL Director General, Dr. Dougbeh Chris Kyanow, advised both the general public and the scientific community to remain calm and avoid panic. The institute urged citizens to continue adhering to public health measures that are already in place.
The release also served as a reminder that NPHIL is currently managing concurrent outbreaks of Mpox, Lassa fever, and Measles, underscoring the ongoing need for public vigilance.
The public and media are encouraged to contact NPHIL directly for information verification and to report any suspected cases through the national hotline at #4455. The institute reaffirmed its role as the nation’s primary agency for responding to public health threats.
