‎NIMBA COUNTY,  Liberia — Christian Christian Young, a young man in his 30s, has bravely shared his harrowing experience with a persistent penile erection, calling it “one of his darkest days.”  “I’m struggling to understand why I’m being subjected to this harsh treatment. I’m innocent of the allegations about having a relationship with one of their girlfriends.

Since this started, I’ve spent over LD$30,000 on treatment in the hospital, trying everything prescribed, but nothing has worked. This feels worse than death. I’m losing my freedom, unable to sleep or sit comfortably.” Youhn spoke about his harrowing experience with penile erection at the office of the Chiefs and Elders Council of Nimba County, located in Sanniquellie.

This happened hours following his return from the traditional oath-administering town, Gbloulay.

Speaking over the weekend, Youhn vehemently denies allegations of having an affair with one of his accused attackers’ girlfriends or fiancées. “I’m absolutely innocent,” he emphasized. “The claim is entirely false, and the ritual was misapplied.”

He described the alleged bewitching as “a devilish and cruel act” and recounted his darkest days, marked by weeks of pain and fruitless medical treatments.

The condition has left Younh in excruciating pain, forcing him to seek medical treatment in various hospitals.  “Despite trying all prescribed measures, I still experience unbearable pain. This is more than a death sentence – I’ve lost my freedom.”

The drama began mid-August 2025 in Mao Town in Yarpea Mahn, Electoral District 2 from a dispute over a romantic relationship — a condition that prompted a traditional inquiry while many residents remain stunned. Prince Duo and Bill Duo, both residents of Mao Town, reportedly accused Younh of having an affair with one of their girlfriends, threatening him with dire consequences if he didn’t desist.

Four days later, Younh started experiencing the distressing condition — the matter that was reported to the Chiefs and Elders Council of Nimba County, which led to an investigation and a trial by ordeal in Gbloulay Town, Nimba County Electoral District #5. However, the accused men, Bill Duo and Prince Duo, confessed to committing the act following their transfer to the traditional oath-administering town to prove their innocence.

The accused men have promised to provide treatment, but claim the traditional herbalist who performed the ritual is from Guinea. Younh’s courageous account sheds light on the devastating consequences of alleged witchcraft and the need for thorough investigations.

Meanwhile, the National Council of Chiefs has announced the deployment of a special envoy to the Republic of Guinea on a humanitarian mission aimed at resolving the critical health situation of Young.

In an official communique released from its Sanniquellie City headquarters on Friday, the Council disclosed that it has formally appointed Mr. Prince Duo as its direct representative. His mandate is to travel to Guinea and seek an “amicable solution” regarding Mr. Young’s medical condition, though the specific nature of the illness was not detailed in the statement.
