SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba County — In the heart of the Underground Community of Sanniquellie City stands a beacon of transformation — Rama Tender-Care Rehab, a growing institution that has become a symbol of hope for individuals and families battling addiction across Nimba County and beyond.

Since its establishment in February 2025, Rama Tender-Care Rehab has been quietly but powerfully changing lives. With the capacity to accommodate 50 clients at a time, the center has so far received 20 individuals, successfully rehabilitated and discharged 17, and currently provides ongoing care for threeothers.

The facility’s mission is clear — to save lives, restore dignity, and fight the scourge of drug addiction that continues to plague communities across Liberia.

A Mother’s Story of Pain and Redemption

One of the most powerful testimonies comes from Madam Edwina Roberts, a widow from Gompa City whose life was torn apart by her son’s addiction — and later restored through Rama Tender-Care Rehab’s intervention.

Standing proudly beside her small market stall, Madam Roberts speaks with tears of joy and gratitude as she recalls the years of pain.

Her 23-year-old son, Shadrach Fatimah, began using drugs in 2016 following the death of his father. Once a promising high school student, he abandoned school, spiraled into addiction, and became a source of fear and heartbreak for his mother.

“When my husband died, my son dropped from school and started smoking cigarettes,” she recounted. “From there, he joined friends who introduced him to drugs. Life became unbearable. He would insult me, chase me with a knife — my own son.”

For years, Madam Roberts struggled alone, unable to afford professional help. Her breakthrough came when a family friend connected her to Juliet Wilson, the compassionate founder and CEO of Rama Tender-Care Rehab.

“I went there and begged Madam Wilson to help me,” she said. “I told her I’m a widow and have nowhere to turn. By God’s grace, she accepted my son even though I couldn’t pay the full amount. Today, my son is alive, sober, and talking sense again.”

Now, after months of treatment and counseling, Shadrach is on a renewed path.

“My son told me, ‘Mama, it’s easy to join the drug game, but to leave it — it’s not easy.’ But he’s free now. He can eat, think, and live without drugs. I thank God and Madam Wilson every day,” she said, smiling.

A Community Lifeline Facing Financial Strain

While Rama Tender-Care Rehab continues to bring hope, it is now facing an urgent funding crisis that threatens its operations.

According to Madam Juliet Wilson, the center’s founder and CEO, many individuals seeking treatment cannot afford the fees, leaving the institution struggling to cover its basic costs.

“We are doing our best, but the demand for rehabilitation services is overwhelming,” Madam Wilson explained. “We currently have many requests for admission, but financial constraints limit our capacity to take in new clients.”

She is appealing for urgent support from the Government of Liberia, Nimba County authorities, local lawmakers, and philanthropists to keep the facility running.

“Your contribution can help transform lives,” she said passionately. “When we save one person from addiction, we restore an entire family. Together, we can give these young people a second chance.”

Fighting Addiction, Restoring Futures

Drug addiction remains one of Liberia’s fastest-growing social crises, particularly among the youth. Institutions like Rama Tender-Care Rehab are not only saving lives but also reshaping communities.

Through counseling, medical detox, and skills development, the center equips recovering addicts to reintegrate into society and rebuild their futures.

Despite its financial challenges, Rama Tender-Care Rehab stands as a living testimony that change is possible — one life at a time.
