NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — About 585 financially challenged children in Nimba County are heading back to school this 2025/2026 academic year with renewed excitement based on the humanitarian efforts of Girl Power Africa, a Liberia-based non-profit organization supported by diaspora donors.

The Liberian non-profit organization is dedicated to breaking the cycle of poverty by funding children’s education and equipping women with entrepreneurship skills. Through its sponsorship program, over 585 vulnerable children from single-parent households, orphaned, neglected, or abandoned backgrounds are able to access education, transform lives, and invest in Liberia’s future.

Empowering the next generation, the organization’s commitment to educational opportunities to children in need, particularly in Liberia, distributing tuition fees paid, school supplies, uniforms, deworming medications, and anti-malaria medications, totaling $110 US dollars yearly.

Selected based on educational merit, beneficiaries receive comprehensive support from kindergarten to grade 12. This initiative empowers single parents struggling to provide education for their children and provides vulnerable children with access to basic education, bridging the gap to a brighter future.

Hundreds of the school-going children commended GAP’s support, showering them with endless blessings. They described the educational support as a timely and life-saving opportunity.

Filled with excitement, the students stressed that they had almost dropped out of school and lost their future due to financial constraints, but their hopes were restored immediately following Girl Power Africa’s rescue mission years ago.

“Every child deserves quality education, as it’s the key to transforming their life for the better,” says Girl Power Africa, a charity organization dedicated to providing educational opportunities. Despite its importance, many children are deprived of education due to poverty.

Mrs. Bulleh Bablitch-Norkeh, founder of Girl Power Africa, emphasized that education is a powerful tool for change, enabling children to learn in a safe environment, protect themselves from harm, and build a brighter future.

“We’re dedicated to empowering women and girls, but we also believe in supporting all children. Our expanded program now includes boys, providing more opportunities for success and fostering a more equitable society. This approach also helps alleviate the burden on mothers, allowing them to care for their sons while pursuing economic opportunities.”

Girl Power Africa is committed to creating lasting change by addressing the needs of women and children, empowering them to build brighter futures through education and empowerment, says Mrs. Norkeh.

She highlighted the challenges children in poverty face, including hunger, limited access to education and healthcare, social discrimination, and isolation.

However, with support from donors, Girl Power Africa provides children with essential services like healthcare, and education, enabling them to create positive change in their lives and communities. “Together, we can end poverty for good and provide education to those who need it most.”

In addition to providing quality education, the humanitarian group is committed to empowering women through microfinance initiatives. By offering access to financial resources, GPA aims to enable women to establish and grow their own businesses, fostering economic independence and self-sufficiency.

This holistic approach will not only enhance their financial stability but also contribute to the overall development of their communities.

On November 3, 2025, Girl Power Africa embarked on a mission to distribute essential school materials to students across various government-run schools under its program in Nimba and Montserrado Counties, Liberia.

This initiative, set to conclude in the coming days, aims to support students’ education by providing them with necessary resources. By doing so, Girl Power Africa is bridging the gap for disadvantaged students who struggle to access basic learning materials, ultimately empowering them to achieve their full potential.

The organization’s efforts are particularly focused on promoting girls’ education and women’s empowerment, aligning with its mission to break the cycle of poverty and create lasting positive change. Through this program, Girl Power Africa is making a tangible impact in the lives of Liberian children, fostering a brighter future for the next generation.
