China has officially handed over 3,600 metric tons of emergency humanitarian food assistance to the Government of Liberia, reaffirming its commitment to Liberia’s food security and bilateral cooperation under the Forum on China–Africa Cooperation (FOCAC).

Speaking at the handover ceremony, China’s Ambassador to Liberia, H.E. Yin Chengwu, said the donation reflects China’s resolve to honor commitments made to its African partners.
Ambassador Yin noted that the food assistance is a direct outcome of the 2024 Beijing Summit of FOCAC, during which Chinese President Xi Jinping met with President Joseph Nyuma Boakai and announced the support. “This 3,600 tons of food assistance is a concrete move of implementing the outcomes of the 2024 Beijing Summit of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation,” Ambassador Yin said, adding, “Once we make a commitment, we will honor it. It carries the profound goodwill of the Chinese people.”

He expressed hope that the assistance would help alleviate Liberia’s food shortage and bring tangible benefits to the Liberian people.

He further described the donation as a reflection of China’s long-standing support for Liberia’s food security and the well-being of its people. “Over the years, China had provided Liberia with several batches of food assistance. This is the latest one,” Ambassador Yin said.

The Chinese diplomat explained that as China prepares to implement its upcoming 15th Five-Year Plan of economic and social development, food security remains central to both its national and international development agenda. “Today’s food assistance is rightly in line with this spirit—not merely as a gesture of friendship, but as part of a broader vision to help a partner build stronger, more resilient food security system,” he stated.

Ambassador Yin also described the handover as a demonstration of the strategic partnership between China and Liberia, stressing that humanitarian assistance goes beyond sharing resources. “It is saying: ‘Your prosperity contributes to our shared future,’” he said.

He emphasized that in a world facing challenges ranging from food insecurity to climate change, “no country can thrive alone,” noting that only through “collective efforts, mutual support, and shared responsibility” can a more equitable and sustainable world be achieved.

Looking ahead, Ambassador Yin said China’s 15th Five-Year Plan will emphasize high-quality development and high-standard opening-up, creating new opportunities for mutually beneficial cooperation.

He reaffirmed that China remains committed to strengthening cooperation with Liberia under the FOCAC framework, aligning development strategies, expanding cooperation across various fields, and working hand-in-hand toward “a future free from hunger and full of hope,” as part of building “a community with a shared future for humanity.”
