Addis Ababa, Ethiopia – The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia in Ethiopia today welcomed a high-level seven-member delegation from the National Investment Commission (NIC) and the Liberia Special Economic Zones Authority (LSEZA), marking the start of a strategic study tour of Ethiopia’s industrial infrastructure.
Arriving in Addis Ababa on December 17, the delegation is undertaking a week-long mission to the Yirgalem Industrial Park, running from December 17 to December 21, 2025. The visit forms part of Liberia’s Special Agro-Industrial Processing Zone (SAPZ) Project, a flagship initiative of the Government of Liberia implemented by the NIC and funded by the African Development Bank (AfDB).
Building Capacity for Agro-Industrial Transformation
The study tour is designed as a critical capacity-building exercise, equipping Liberia’s team with practical insights into Ethiopia’s successful industrial park model. The Ethiopian Ministry of Industry is facilitating the program in close collaboration with the Embassy, pledging full support to ensure the delegation gains exposure to best practices that can be adapted for Liberia’s own agro-industrial development.
The SAPZ Project aims to revolutionize Liberia’s agricultural sector by establishing designated zones for agro-industrial activities. Through value addition, increased productivity, and enhanced competitiveness, the project seeks to stimulate economic growth and create sustainable opportunities for farmers and investors alike.
Strengthening Bilateral Relations
At the Embassy, the delegation was warmly received by Chargé d’Affaires a.i., Mr. Robert M. Sammie, who highlighted the importance of strengthening cooperation between Liberia and Ethiopia in industrial development and investment promotion.
“The Embassy remains committed to supporting initiatives that drive Liberia’s development through international knowledge exchange,” Mr. Sammie stated, underscoring the significance of the visit in advancing Liberia’s modernization agenda.
Head of the delegation, Mr. Sake K. M. Dolo, emphasized that the mission’s primary objective is to study Ethiopia’s industrial park framework and adapt its proven strategies for replication in Liberia.
A Step Toward Modernization
This visit represents a milestone in Liberia’s efforts to modernize its industrial sector, attract sustainable investment, and deepen bilateral ties with Ethiopia. By learning from Ethiopia’s experience, Liberia aims to accelerate the implementation of its SAPZ Project and position itself as a hub for agro-industrial transformation in West Africa.
