-UL Disciplinary Committee Denounces SUP Campus “Painting”

MONROVIA – The University of Liberia’s Student Disciplinary Committee (SDC) has condemned a recent spate of vandalism on its Capitol Hill campus, where students were filmed deliberately splashing and smearing paint on university buildings, including the Graduate School.
In a strong public statement released Tuesday, the Committee described the acts captured in viral social media videos as a “blatant disregard for the academic environment” and a serious violation of the University’s Student Handbook. The SDC vowed to investigate all individuals involved, warning that those found responsible will face full disciplinary action.
“The University of Liberia will not tolerate vandalism, destruction of property, or any form of misconduct that undermines the integrity of the institution,” the statement read. The Committee labeled the incidents as “deliberate destruction of institutional property” that fails to reflect the discipline expected from students at Liberia’s premier university.
While the statement did not speculate on the motive behind the paint-splashing, such acts on university campuses globally are often tied to student protests or demands for administrative action. The SDC’s framing of the events as purely criminal vandalism—without acknowledging any potential underlying grievances—sets the stage for a potential clash between student activism and institutional authority.
The Committee called on all students to act as “positive ambassadors” and demonstrate “constructive, lawful, and responsible behavior.” It reaffirmed its commitment to safeguarding university property and maintaining the institution’s reputation.
Andrew K. Dean, Chairman of the SDC, signed the release. The investigation is now underway to identify the students involved in the incidents, which have sparked debate online about the line between protest and property destruction.
