– A Mother’s Struggle After Childbirth

GANTA CITY, Nimba County — Two years ago, she ran a business in Ganta City. She worked hard every day to support her family. Today, she walks the roads between Ganta and Sanniquellie alone. She talks to herself and often seems lost in her own world.

What happened? After the birth of her fourth child, she developed a severe mental health condition called postpartum psychosis. This condition affects about 1 in 1,000 mothers. It can cause hallucinations, extreme confusion, and dangerous mood swings.

Her situation grew worse after her husband died. He was a medical professional who had helped care for her through earlier childbirth difficulties. Without his support, and with no other help available, her mental health collapsed.

She now lives on the streets. Her story shows what can happen when mothers do not get the mental healthcare they need.

Local women are now speaking out. They are asking humanitarian groups and kind-hearted people to help this mother. They want her to be taken to ELWA Hospital’s psychiatric ward for proper treatment.

“This is urgent,” one woman said. “If she gets care now, she still has a chance to recover.”
