Monrovia, Liberia, The Organization for Women and Children (ORWOCH), in partnership with the African Women Leaders Network (AWLN) Liberia Chapter, will convene a one-day Intergenerational Dialogue on 27 January 2026. The event will take place at the Ballroom, EJS Ministerial Complex in Monrovia.

The national convening will bring together women legislators, experienced and emerging women leaders, civil society actors, youth leaders, and selected allies. Participants will reflect on recent electoral cycles and prepare for stronger women’s participation ahead of the 2029 elections.

Women remain underrepresented in political and decision-making spaces in Liberia. Progress is slowed by weak enforcement of gender quotas, violence against women in politics, and social norms that limit women’s leadership.

The program will include opening remarks and a keynote address. It will feature thematic panel discussions and moderated intergenerational roundtable sessions. Discussions will focus on women’s political participation, electoral reform and temporary special measures, peace and security, and social norm change.

The dialogue has two objectives. The first is to promote young women’s political leadership through mentorship, knowledge exchange, and stronger networks across generations. The second is to generate practical recommendations on electoral reforms and gender-responsive legal and policy frameworks. The dialogue will also address violence and backlash against women in politics and the role of men and boys in positive social norm change.

Approximately 60 participants are expected to attend. Women will comprise about 85 percent of participants, and men about 15 percent. The group will include young women leaders aged 18 to 35 and experienced women leaders aged 35 and above. A limited number of male participants will join, including selected HeForShe allies and institutional representatives.

Participants were selected through a transparent nomination process coordinated by ORWOCH and AWLN Liberia. Nominations were drawn from the AWLN Liberia Steering Committee, the ORWOCH Board, civil society and youth-led networks, and relevant institutions. Selection prioritized leadership experience or potential, commitment to gender equality, diversity across age, sector, and geography, and the ability to contribute meaningfully to the dialogue.

Expected outcomes include stronger intergenerational relationships and networks among women leaders, young women, male allies, and stakeholders. The dialogue will also produce clear recommendations and commitments on electoral reforms, gender-responsive legal frameworks, and social norm change strategies. Youth-led perspectives and expert insights will inform these outcomes.

The dialogue will use participatory methods throughout the day. These include facilitated working groups, reflection sessions, and group presentations. Monitoring and learning will track participation, inclusivity, and the quality of recommendations. Tools will include observation checklists and participant feedback forms.

The dialogue is supported by UN Women and the European Union under the WYDE project. UN Women and EU representatives are expected to participate and provide remarks or technical input. Their contributions will be recognized during the event. Approved UN Women and EU logos will appear on banners, flyers, and digital materials.

Media outlets are invited to cover the convening. Communications will include social media posts before, during, and after the dialogue. Live photo and video documentation will support national visibility, including planned television and media broadcasting.
