Harbel, Margibi County – An Ethiopian Airlines aircraft experienced a mechanical malfunction upon landing at Roberts International Airport (RIA) on Saturday, January 31, 2026, according to a statement released by the Liberia Airport Authority (LAA).

The aircraft, operating as Flight ET 943, landed safely at approximately 5:27 PM. However, while exiting the runway onto the taxiway, a mechanical issue rendered the plane temporarily immobile.

In response, airport recovery teams were immediately deployed. The aircraft was safely towed from the runway to the tarmac, allowing normal airport operations to continue without disruption. The LAA confirmed that at no time were passengers or crew in danger.

“The aircraft’s mechanical fault was promptly repaired, and the flight has since departed on its scheduled journey,” the LAA stated.

The authority has formally requested the Liberia Aircraft Accident Investigation Bureau (AAIB) to conduct an independent investigation to determine the root cause of the incident and recommend preventive measures.

“The LAA remains committed to upholding the highest standards of aviation safety, operational efficiency, and service to the traveling public,” the statement concluded, reassuring the public of the airport’s operational integrity following the incident.
