International Women’s Day Anniversary

Today, as we celebrate International Women’s Day, my heart is filled with deep gratitude and admiration for the women of Liberia—especially the women whose stories are rarely told, whose sacrifices are often unnoticed, yet whose impact is felt in every corner of our nation.

I speak today to honor our rural women. These are the women who wake up before dawn, with hope in their hearts and strength in their hands. They walk long distances for water, they labor in the fields under the hot sun, they nurture children with love even when resources are scarce, and they keep their communities alive through sheer will and determination. They do all of this quietly, without applause, without recognition, and often without the support they deserve.

Yet these women are the backbone of Liberia.

Their courage feeds our families.

Their resilience sustains our villages.

Their dreams carry the future of our nation.

And still, too many of them remain invisible.

At Womenvoices Newspaper, we believe that no woman should remain unseen. Visibility is dignity. Being heard is empowerment. When we uplift the voices of rural women, we affirm their humanity, we honor their labor, and we acknowledge that their daily struggles and triumphs are woven into the fabric of our national story.

To the women in our rural communities: please know that we see you. We see your tired hands and your determined spirit. We see your tears, your laughter, your sacrifices, and your unwavering hope. Liberia stands because of you. Liberia grows because of you. Liberia survives because of you.

On this International Women’s Day, I celebrate you with all the emotion your contributions deserve. You are warriors. You are builders. You are the quiet heroes who shape our tomorrow.

May this day remind every woman—especially those in the most remote parts of our country—that you matter, your voice matters, and your work is deeply, profoundly valued.

Happy International Women’s Day.
