Monrovia, Liberia – The Ministry of Commerce and Industry has released the approved retail prices for gasoline and fuel oil across rural counties, effective March 20, 2026. The new pricing structure, which includes transportation costs to rural areas, aims to ensure uniformity and protect consumers from arbitrary price hikes.

According to the announcement signed by Minister Megdaline Ellen Dagoseh, the base approved retail price for gasoline stands at $4.87 USD, while fuel oil is set at $5.78 USD. However, final rural retail prices vary by location, factoring in transportation “freight” costs to each district. The Central Bank of Liberia (CBL) exchange rate of 187.00 Liberian Dollars to 1 USD, dated February 13, 2026, was used to calculate the local currency equivalent.

In Bong County’s Gbarnga district, gasoline retails at $5.13 USD (960.00 LD), while in Grand Gedeh’s Bopolu City, the price rises to $6.37 USD (1,190.00 LD). Similarly, fuel oil prices range from $5.89 USD in Grand Cape Mount’s Sime Darby district to $7.28 USD in Grand Gedeh’s Putu CVI area.

Counties such as Grand Kru, Maryland, and River Gee—located in the southeastern corridor—consistently show the highest prices, with gasoline retailing at $5.96 USD (1,115.00 LD) and fuel oil at $6.87 USD (1,285.00 LD), reflecting longer transport distances. Conversely, Margibi and Bomi counties recorded some of the lowest rural prices, with gasoline as low as $4.98 USD (930.00 LD) in areas like Clay and Sime Darby.

The Ministry emphasized that its Inspectorate Team will closely monitor the approved ceiling prices to prevent undercutting among competitors and to ensure that importers and retailers do not impose arbitrary price increases on consumers. The Ministry noted that these measures are part of ongoing efforts to stabilize the petroleum market and ensure fairness in the pricing circuit across the country.

The price list covers dozens of locations across all 15 counties, with the new rates taking effect immediately.
