-Transfers One to Police Following Fatal Crash

MONROVIA, Liberia – The Executive Protection Service (EPS) has announced disciplinary actions against two of its personnel after a fatal motor vehicle accident that claimed two lives and left several others injured along the Nimba Highway near Ganta City.

The incident occurred on March 19, 2026, and involved an unauthorized EPS vehicle bearing license plate EPS-79.

In a statement released on March 20, EPS Director Sam Gaye confirmed that Agent Agrippa B. Chea, a member of the Vice President’s security detail, has been suspended indefinitely and turned over to the Liberia National Police (LNP) for investigation into possible vehicular homicide.

According to preliminary findings from a joint inquiry conducted by the EPS and the Ganta Traffic Police, Agent Chea was operating outside the scope of his official duties at the time of the crash. Investigators allege he was driving at excessive speed and in the wrong lane when his vehicle collided with an oncoming private vehicle.

In a related action, Officer William Menwon, Commander of the Vice President’s detail, has also been suspended indefinitely. The EPS cited violations of its chain of command, including the unauthorized deployment of the vehicle involved in the accident.

The EPS emphasized that at the time of the incident, the Vice President was at home, and no official motorcade operations were underway.

The agency extended its condolences to the families of the deceased and expressed sympathy for the injured, reaffirming its commitment to accountability and professional conduct.
