Monrovia, Liberia —— The outgoing Chairperson of the National Elections Commission of Liberia (NECㅡLiberia), Madam Davidetta Browne Lansanah, has commended members of the national and international media for their critical role in strengthening Liberia’s electoral processes, as she concludes her tenure spanning more than a decade.
In a formal letter addressed to the media dated 31 March 2026, Madam Browne Lansanah expressed ‘deepest gratitude’ for the invaluable contributions journalists have made in highlighting and supporting the work of the NEC from 2013 to March 2026.
She credited the media with promoting transparency, accountability, and civic engagement throughout Liberia’s electoral processes.
The NEC outgoing Chairperson emphasized that the media’s commitment to accurate, timely, and responsible reporting significantly bolstered public trust in elections by giving visibility to both the Commission’s achievements and challenges.
According to her, such coverage has been instrumental in reinforcing confidence in electoral outcomes and democratic governance.
She further noted that media coverage over the years has gone beyond information dissemination to fostering constructive national dialogue on electoral reforms, voter education, and institutional integrity.
This engagement, she said, ensured that the voice of the Commission reached diverse audiences both within Liberia and internationally.
Madam Browne Lansanah also acknowledged the professionalism demonstrated by journalists during critical electoral periods, when the demand for credible information is at its peak.
The NEC outgoing Chairperson praised the resilience and dedication of the media, noting that their efforts, often under pressure, have not gone unnoticed.
‘As I conclude my service, I do so with a profound sense of appreciation for your collaboration and support,’ she stated, expressing confidence that the media will continue to uphold ethical journalism and contribute to the strengthening of Liberia’s democratic institutions.
She concluded by extending her sincere thanks and best wishes for the continued success of media practitioners.
Madam Browne Lansanah served the National Elections Commission of Liberia as Commissioner since 2013, and later appointed as Chairperson in 2020, overseeing multiple electoral cycles and reforms aimed at enhancing the credibility and inclusiveness of Liberia’s electoral system.
