NIMBA COUNTY,  Liberia —  The head of Liberia’s Superintendent Council and Nimba County Superintendent, Kou Meapeh Gono is leading council members on a fact-finding and peace mission in Foya District, Lofa County, specifically in Solumbah Town, amidst the border crisis between Liberia and Guinea.

A delegation from the Superintendent Council arrived in Lofa County on Wednesday, April 1, 2026, and kicked off a crucial engagement with citizens, security personnel, and local stakeholders, urging calm and emphasizing the need to sustain Liberia’s fragile peace and stability. The visit saw Superintendents from Grand Bassa, Bong, and Nimba counties – Karyou Johnson, Loleyah Hawa Norris, and Kou Meapeh Gono respectively – joining Lofa County Superintendent J. Lavelah Massaquoi in a show of solidarity and government support.

The delegation’s mission aims to reinforce the Government of Liberia’s ongoing diplomatic efforts to resolve the escalating border dispute with its sister country, Guinea. Tensions were high on the Liberia-Guinea border in Solumbah, Lofa County as of March 2026, after Guinean soldiers crossed into Lofa County, Liberia, and seized land near the town of Solumbah. The incident, originating around March 9, involved reports of armed troops, forced removal of Liberian flags, and civilian panic, prompting diplomatic efforts by President Boakai.

Liberian President Joseph Boakai has since called for calm, opting for diplomatic dialogue via the Mano River Union and ECOWAS rather than immediate military action. In a bid to bolster President Boakai’s push for diplomatic dialogue, Supt. Gono’s team on the ground in Solumbah Town, Foya District is leaving no stone unturned in driving home the importance of peace.

Drawing from Liberia’s tumultuous past, the team is highlighting the devastating setbacks associated with brutal war, emphasizing that the country’s history of conflict has yielded nothing but suffering and stagnation. The superintendent council delegation in Lofa is urging citizens to remain calm and support the government’s efforts to resolve the border dispute with Guinea through diplomatic means.

The emphasis is on sustaining Liberia’s fragile peace and stability, a message resonating deeply with the people of Foya, given Liberia’s own experiences with conflict. The visitation of Liberia’s Superintendent Council in Foya, Lofa County, suggests that the border dispute between Liberia and Guinea is gradually easing due to mitigation efforts. The Superintendent Council’s fact-finding mission and peace talks with citizens have sparked hope for a peaceful resolution.

Diplomatic sources hint at a possible breakthrough, with both countries working to de-escalate tensions and find a mutually beneficial solution. While official statements are cautious, the tone on the ground is optimistic. The Government of Liberia’s proactive approach, led by President Boakai, seems to be yielding results. The emphasis on dialogue and peaceful coexistence is resonating with citizens on both sides of the border.

As talks continue, Liberians are hopeful that a resolution will bring stability and renewed economic opportunities to the region. For now, the focus remains on sustaining the fragile peace and avoiding any actions that could reignite tensions.
