President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Sr. on Friday dedicated a new 20‑megawatt solar farm at Mount Coffee, calling it a major milestone in Liberia’s drive to expand reliable electricity, stimulate economic growth, and create citizen opportunities.

Speaking at the ceremony, President Boakai noted the project was completed in under 24 months after groundbreaking on October 11, 2024 — proof, he said, of his administration’s determination to deliver essential services. “We are in a hurry to serve the Liberian people,” he declared.

The solar farm, supported by the World Bank through the RESPITE Project, adds clean, renewable energy to the national grid. President Boakai disclosed that 22 megawatts of lost generation capacity have already been restored at Mount Coffee, with another 42 megawatts planned.

He emphasized that unreliable electricity has long hindered economic growth, discouraged investment, and constrained basic services. “Energy powers nearly every aspect of modern life,” he said, citing healthcare, education, commerce, agriculture, mining, and industry. Reliable power, he added, will enable a 24‑hour economy, create jobs, attract private investment, and improve public safety through well‑lit streets and facilities.

The President commended Liberia Electricity Corporation (LEC) Managing Director Mohammed M. Sherif and his team. He acknowledged more work remains but pledged to continue expanding access and strengthening transmission systems.

In a separate development, President Boakai launched the National Security Strategy 2026‑2036 — a ten‑year framework for safeguarding sovereignty, territorial integrity, and democratic values against evolving threats like transnational crime, cybercrime, economic vulnerabilities, and public health emergencies. He stressed that national security is a shared responsibility requiring good governance, justice, social cohesion, and community policing, alongside regional and international cooperation.
