MONROVIA – The Chinese Embassy in Monrovia hosted a high-level reception on June 26, 2026, to commemorate the 105th anniversary of the founding of the Communist Party of China (CPC). The event, held in anticipation of the official July 1st anniversary, drew an assembly of Liberia’s political leadership, including President Joseph Nyuma Boakai, Senate President Pro Tempore Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, and representatives from the legislature and cabinet.

China’s Ambassador to Liberia YIN Chengwu framed the CPC’s 105-year history as a narrative of resilience and national rebirth. Speaking to an audience of government officials and diplomatic guests, the Ambassador traced the Party’s evolution from a small group of 50 members in 1921 to the world’s largest governing party today, with over 100 million members.

“105 years ago, at a critical historical moment when the Chinese nation faced national subjugation, the CPC was born,” Ambassador Yin remarked. He highlighted the Party’s journey from ending “century-long humiliation” to achieving the historic eradication of absolute poverty for nearly 800 million people, characterizing China’s rise as a “historical inevitability.”

Reflecting on the factors behind the CPC’s longevity, the Ambassador identified three pillars of its governing philosophy a People-Centered Approach: Emphasizing that development must be “for, by, and shared among the people,” with policies focused on healthcare, education, and livelihood improvements, Courage for Self-Reform: Highlighting the Party’s commitment to internal discipline, anticorruption measures, and constant evolution to maintain vitality and Independence and Sovereignty: Stressing that China’s path—neither a copy of foreign models nor reliant on external aid—is rooted in its own history, culture, and national conditions.

Moving beyond domestic achievements, the Ambassador utilized the platform to extend a warm hand to the international community, with a specific focus on Liberia. He framed the CPC’s future not as an isolated effort, but as part of a global movement toward modernization and stability.

“Achieving modernization is not ‘an exclusive patent’ of a small handful of countries,” the Ambassador stated. He reiterated China’s commitment to the Global Development Initiative and other multilateral frameworks, proposing that China and Liberia deepen their exchanges on governance, economic development, and civilizational learning.

The Ambassador emphasized that Beijing seeks cooperation on the basis of “independence, complete equality, mutual respect, and non-interference.” He proposed a vision of “shared prosperity” where modernization paths are tailored to each nation’s unique realities.

The reception served as a symbolic bridge between the two nations. In his closing toast, Ambassador Yin expressed optimism for the future of the China-Liberia relationship, calling for continued collaboration that promotes the happiness and well-being of both the Chinese and Liberian people.

As the CPC enters its 106th year, the sentiment in Monrovia signaled a deepening of diplomatic ties, with both nations looking to navigate the complexities of global development through solidarity, mutual learning, and a commitment to shared progress.
