Nimba County Superintendent Kou Meapeh Gono has once again earned national recognition for her leadership and commitment to local governance after being honored at the 16th Golden Image Awards (GIA) 2026 with the International Category Award for “Accolade National County Development of the Year 2026.”
The latest recognition marks Superintendent Gono’s second consecutive Golden Image Award, further cementing her reputation as one of Liberia’s leading local government administrators. She also made history as the first Superintendent of Nimba County to win the prestigious national accolade in two successive years since assuming office in 2024.
At the 15th Golden Image Awards in 2025, Superintendent Gono was named Superintendent of the Year, an award that recognized her dedication to public service, administrative reforms, and efforts to accelerate development across Liberia’s most populous county.
The 16th Golden Image Awards, held on July 21, 2026, formed part of activities commemorating Liberia’s 179th Independence Anniversary. This year’s ceremony was celebrated under the theme: “Peace, Leadership, Investment, and Cultural Excellence,” bringing together government officials, diplomats, business leaders, civil society organizations, and distinguished guests to honor individuals and institutions making outstanding contributions to national development.
The annual Golden Image Awards recognize exceptional achievements by public officials, private institutions, development partners, and organizations whose work has significantly advanced peacebuilding, good governance, investment promotion, cultural preservation, and sustainable national development in Liberia and beyond.
According to the award organizers, Superintendent Gono was recognized for the visible transformation taking place across Nimba County through innovative development initiatives, effective leadership, strengthened partnerships, and her commitment to improving the lives of citizens.
Since taking office, Gono has consistently emphasized inclusive governance, accountability, infrastructure development, youth and women’s empowerment, and collaboration with local communities and development partners. Her administration has also focused on expanding access to essential public services while promoting transparency in county governance.
The latest honor serves as national recognition of the progress being made in Nimba County and reinforces the growing confidence in the county’s development agenda under Superintendent Gono’s leadership.
Her consecutive victories at Liberia’s premier recognition awards underscore Nimba County’s emergence as a model of local governance, demonstrating that visionary leadership, strategic partnerships, and people-centered policies can drive meaningful and sustainable development.
Receiving the “Accolade National County Development of the Year 2026” award further highlights Nimba County’s continued progress and reflects the administration’s commitment to building a more prosperous, inclusive, and resilient future for its citizens.
