NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — Prominent Ghanaian lifestyle content creator and travel vlogger, Naa Atswei has called on Liberians to become stronger ambassadors for their country by actively promoting its rich cultural heritage, breathtaking landscapes, and renowned hospitality to the global community.
According to her, Liberians have a unique responsibility to tell their own stories and showcase the country’s untapped tourism potential instead of allowing outdated stereotypes and long-held misconceptions to shape international perceptions of Liberia.
Naa Atswei, who is currently touring Liberia, is widely known for documenting her travels across Africa through engaging digital content that highlights the continent’s history, culture, cuisine, and tourist destinations.
During her visit, she has explored several locations, including Congo Town in Monrovia, the scenic mountains of Nimba County, and other tourist attractions across the country. She has also immersed herself in Liberia’s vibrant cultural traditions, local cuisine, music, and the daily lives of its people.
Reflecting on her experience, the Ghanaian influencer said her visit had completely changed her perception of Liberia and reinforced the importance of experiencing a country firsthand rather than relying on information from the internet or the opinions of others.
“Liberians, you need to intensify promoting all the good things about your country. There is so much more the world needs to see here, and nobody can consistently tell the story like you.
“The Liberia I’ve come to experience will live with me for a lifetime. I will remember that there is more to it than a country with a history of civil war. I will remember a nation with very welcoming people, beautiful landscapes, unique resorts, delicious spicy food, and so much more.”
Her remarks come at a time when Liberia is working to strengthen its tourism sector and attract more international visitors, despite decades of being associated primarily with its civil war and, more recently, the Corona and Ebola epidemics.
Naa Atswei’s observations underscore the growing role of digital content creators in reshaping global perceptions of African countries. Through authentic storytelling and firsthand experiences, travel influencers are increasingly introducing international audiences to destinations that have long been overlooked by mainstream tourism.
Her visit has generated excitement among many Liberians, who have praised her efforts to showcase the country’s natural beauty, rich cultural heritage, and warm hospitality to a global audience. Many social media users believe such positive exposure could help boost tourism, attract foreign investment, create employment opportunities, and encourage Liberians to take greater pride in preserving and promoting their national identity.
The Ghanaian travel vlogger’s message serves as a powerful reminder that Liberia’s story extends far beyond its difficult past. From its pristine beaches and lush rainforests to the rolling mountains of Nimba County, diverse cultural traditions, and resilient people, Liberia offers unique attractions that deserve greater recognition on the global tourism map.
As more international travel creators continue to discover Liberia, tourism stakeholders hope their experiences will inspire more visitors to explore one of West Africa’s most historically significant yet underappreciated destinations.
