SANNIQUELLIE, Nimba County — As Liberia continues to grapple with a worsening drug abuse and addiction crisis, particularly among young people, Rama Tender-Care Rehab has announced the opening of recruitment for its second cohort rehabilitation circle — offering renewed hope to individuals and families affected by substance abuse across Nimba County and other parts of the country.
Located in the Underground Community of Sanniquellie City, the community-based addiction treatment center said enrollment for Cohort-2 will commence in September 2026, as it intensifies its mission to save lives, restore dignity, and combat the growing scourge of drug addiction that continues to threaten Liberia’s social and economic future.
Drug abuse has increasingly become one of Liberia’s most pressing public health and social challenges, with many young people falling victim to substance addiction. The crisis has contributed to rising crime, school dropouts, unemployment, family breakdowns, and mental health challenges,— prompting renewed calls for stronger rehabilitation and prevention initiatives across the country.
Established in February 2025, Rama Tender-Care Rehab has steadily emerged as one of Liberia’s promising community-based rehabilitation centers. Despite operating with limited financial and logistical resources, the institution has built a strong reputation for delivering compassionate, confidential, and professional addiction treatment services.
The rehabilitation facility has the capacity to accommodate up to 50 male and female clients at a time, providing a structured environment where individuals can safely begin their journey toward recovery.
During its inaugural rehabilitation program in 2025, the center admitted 20 individuals, all of whom successfully completed treatment and graduated after undergoing comprehensive recovery programs designed to help them overcome addiction and reintegrate into society as productive citizens.
As preparations continue for Cohort Two, the center’s Founder and Chief Executive Officer, Juliet Maway Wilson, is encouraging individuals battling addiction, as well as their families, to take advantage of the opportunity to seek treatment.
She said the rehabilitation program is open to both males and females from Nimba County, southeastern Liberia, central Liberia, and every other county across the country.
“If you’re from southeastern Liberia, central Liberia, or any other county, we are recruiting both males and females. Recovery is possible, and we encourage everyone struggling with addiction to come forward and seek help,” Madam Wilson said.
This year’s recruitment is being conducted under the theme, “Find Freedom, Embrace Recovery, Say No to Drugs,” a message that reflects the institution’s commitment to helping individuals break free from addiction, rebuild their lives, and regain hope for the future.
Rama Tender-Care Rehab offers a comprehensive package of recovery services, including psychosocial counseling, home-based care, inpatient rehabilitation, drug testing, relapse prevention, life-skills training, spiritual support and mentorship, family counseling, and community reintegration.
According to Madam Wilson, the center adopts a holistic approach to recovery by addressing not only substance dependence but also the emotional, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of every client.
She explained that the institution provides a safe, supportive, and confidential environment where individuals struggling with addiction can heal, rediscover their self-worth, and prepare for successful reintegration into their families and communities.
Madam Wilson stressed that drug addiction is not merely an individual problem but a national development challenge that requires collective action from government institutions, civil society organizations, religious leaders, development partners, traditional leaders, families, and communities.
Call for Partnership
As the center prepares to admit its second cohort, Rama Tender-Care Rehab is appealing for financial, technical, and institutional support from the Ministry of Youth and Sports, relevant government ministries and agencies, the Nimba County Administration, lawmakers, humanitarian organizations, international partners, private businesses, philanthropists, and other stakeholders committed to addressing Liberia’s growing drug epidemic.
The institution believes that increased support will enable it to expand its facilities, admit more clients, improve rehabilitation programs, procure essential medical and counseling materials, and strengthen long-term recovery services for vulnerable young Liberians.
Madam Wilson emphasized that investing in rehabilitation is an investment in national peace, security, and sustainable development.
“Your contribution can help transform lives,” she said. “When we save one person from addiction, we restore an entire family. Together, we can combat addiction across Liberia. Recover, renew, and rebuild.”
Despite persistent financial constraints, Rama Tender-Care Rehab continues to stand as a testament that recovery is possible and that every person battling addiction deserves compassion, support, and a second chance.
As Liberia continues its fight against substance abuse, the center hopes its second rehabilitation cohort will inspire more individuals to seek help and encourage greater national investment in addiction treatment and recovery services.
