MONROVIA โ€“ The Management of the Liberia Airport Authority has condemned allegations of harassment and solicitation at Roberts International Airport, describing the reported conduct as “unacceptable” and vowing to hold those responsible accountable.

The statement comes after Mr. Josiah Pailey publicly alleged that he was pressured for tips and lost 40USD during his experience at the nation’s primary gateway.

In a release issued today, the LAA said it has “zero tolerance for criminality, corruption, and any other vices that undermine the dignity, safety, and professionalism expected at our nation’s premier gateway.” The management described such behavior as one that “tarnishes Liberia’s image” and said it “will not be protected, excused, or ignored under any circumstance.”

The Authority confirmed it has launched an internal review and is working with relevant security agencies to identify any staff or individuals found to be engaging in these acts. “Anyone complicit will face disciplinary and legal action, up to and including prosecution and dismissal,” the statement read.

However, management also expressed concern that some allegations are intended to “tarnish the outstanding work and service delivery” at the airport. The Authority took particular issue with media houses it said “have chosen to write and post based on hearsay and have failed to place a single call” to verify the claims.

The LAA has urged Mr. Pailey to contact its Investigations Unit directly on 0770555051 with full details of his experience. “Your testimony is critical and will directly inform our ongoing investigation,” the statement said.

The Authority also encouraged any other passenger who has experienced or witnessed similar conduct to come forward “without fear of delay or retaliation.”

Management reaffirmed its commitment to restoring public trust and ensuring that RIA “reflects the pride of our nation.” The LAA said it will update the public as actions are taken.
