-Says Janga Kowo Remains Chairman

MONROVIA, Liberia โ€” The opposition Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) has

rejected reports of a leadership shake-up within the party, describing the claims as fabricated and intended to sow division within the movement.

CDC Secretary General Jefferson T. Koijee, in a statement issued Monday, denied that Senator Nathaniel Fallo McGill had been appointed to any new portfolio, insisting that Atty. Janga Kowo remains the duly elected National Chairman of the party.

“Let me state for the record, categorically and clearly: at no time was Senator Nathaniel Fallo McGill ever appointed to such a portfolio,” Koijee said. “Atty. Janga Kowo remains the duly elected National Chairman of the Congress for Democratic Change and enjoys the absolute support of our noble political movement.”

Koijee dismissed the reported claim that he would “address it on my next birthday in 2027,” calling it “cheap fiction from people who have run out of real news.” The CDC Secretary General accused the ruling establishment of President Joseph Nyuma Boakai of spreading what he called “malicious and satanic lies,” describing the reports as a “diversionary tactic meant to instigate divide and rule within our noble political movement.”

He said scores of national and international personalities had reached out to him since the reports surfaced. Koijee rejected any suggestion that the CDC operates as a “gangster paradise,” saying the party has upheld democratic values throughout its 22-year existence. He pointed to former President George M. Weah’s peaceful handover of power after his six-year presidency as evidence of the party’s commitment to democratic principles.

“That institution is presided over by one of Liberia’s finest democratic peace paragons, Comrade President George M. Weah,” Koijee said. “After his six-year presidency, he showed unreserved respect for the country and the Liberian people and turned the country over peacefully. That is the standard. That is our legacy.”

Warning Ahead of 2029

Looking ahead to the 2029 elections, which the party has dubbed “The Final Destination,” Koijee warned that any attempt by President Boakai to remain in office beyond his constitutional term would be met with resistance. “Any attempt by Mr. Boakai to spend one minute refusing to vacate the office will be met by the full force of the Liberian people, the Constitution, and the international community,” he said. “The precedent set by President Weah will not be betrayed.”

Koijee also announced that the party will hold its Martyrs’ Day commemoration from November 4 to 7 in Kinjor, under the theme: “They Carried the Struggle, We Carry Their Legacy.” He urged party partisans to remain united and focused. “To our partisans: ignore the noise, stay united, and keep your eyes on the prize,” he said. “The CDC is one, and the CDC is ready.”
