MONROVIA, Liberia – A fire outbreak in Block C, FDA Doe Estate Community, has destroyed a family home and its contents, leaving children who were present at the time appealing to government, humanitarian organizations, and the public for assistance.
Abigail Daniels, the eldest child present at the scene, told Women Voices Newspaper that she and her younger sister were outside when the incident occurred. She said she later went inside and heard a blast before realizing the house was on fire.
According to Abigail, no one was inside the house when the fire started. She said there had been no quarrel or dispute prior to the incident.
“We just came out, and I saw the house on fire,” she explained during an interview at the scene.
The fire reportedly destroyed all of the family’s belongings. The cause has not been established.
Abigail said her parents were not present at the time. Her mother was reportedly in Bong County following the death and burial of another daughter, while her father was also away from the community.
The family’s situation has been compounded by the recent bereavement, adding to the challenges now facing the household after the fire.
Speaking about her most urgent need, Abigail appealed directly to government for help to rebuild the family home.
“If I get the opportunity to speak to the President, I will ask him to help me rebuild my house,” she said.
The family is calling on the Government of Liberia, non-governmental organizations, humanitarian groups, and well-meaning individuals to assist them in recovering from the loss.
As of the time of reporting, the cause of the fire had not been determined. No injuries were reported, though the circumstances surrounding the incident remain unclear.
