– Harvest rice on government farm

The Ministry of Agriculture has expressed delight over its achievements in 2022. According to the ministry, the year under review was a high-performing period for the Ministry of Agriculture, with more focus placed directly on impacting rural and urban farmers and those in the agricultural value chain.

The Ministry plans to release its 30 impact and success stories for the year 2022 over the next 15 days.

“After 40 years, the first government farm in Grand Cape Mountain County was established, with rice planting and harvesting,” the Ministry said on its official site.

The Ministry of Agriculture woke up a government farm in Teh Town, Grand Cape Mount County after it had been dormant for 40 years. This was in response to a directive from His Excellency, President George Manneh Weah, that government farms all over the country be turned back on, the ministry said.

“Since July 2022, the MOA’s field technicians have been working on the farm. Since then, 25 hectares of land have been used to plant rice.”

Residents of surrounding villages and towns have been harvesting the rice, which will be used for seeds in the 2023 planting season. This is intended to assist them in growing more rice.

The farmland is 65 km southwest of Monrovia, on a dirt road that leads to Robertsport, which is the Capitol City of Grand Cape Mount County. It is exactly 4 kilometers from the Ibrahim Babangida Highway.

Residents in Teh said President William Tolbert established the farm in the 1970s, which had rice and other food crops are grown on it up to 1981.
