MONROVIA – The Montserrado County Chapter of the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC) Women’s League has publicly denounced newly confirmed Deputy Minister for Urban Affairs, Madam Fatima Bintu Sirleaf, for what the group characterizes as “disrespectful and troubling” insults directed at citizens who criticized her Senate confirmation.

In a strongly-worded statement released on November 20, 2025, the influential women’s wing of the ruling party asserted that public officials have a fundamental responsibility to act with humility and respect, particularly when responding to public scrutiny.

“As leaders, we must always remember that we are servants of the people,” stated Hon. Nora T. Wreh, Chair of the Montserrado County CDC Women’s League. “Insulting citizens because they questioned your qualifications or performance is not the behavior the public expects from someone in high office.”

The League’s rebuke underscores growing concern over the tone of discourse between government officials and the citizenry. The group emphasized that criticism is an inherent part of democratic accountability and that responding with harsh language only serves to erode public trust.

“We are women, mothers, and community leaders. We believe in respect, discipline, and service,” Chairlady Wreh added. “No official should use their platform to talk down to the same people they rely on for support and cooperation.”

The CDC Women’s League issued a multi-point call to action, demanding:

A formal condemnation of the alleged insults made by Deputy Minister Sirleaf.
For the Ministry of Internal Affairs and the broader Government of Liberia to remind all appointed officials of the imperative for professionalism and respect in public engagement.
That Deputy Minister Sirleaf directly address the concerns raised and demonstrate leadership by engaging with citizens in a constructive and respectful manner.

The statement concluded by reaffirming the League’s commitment to promoting responsible leadership and safeguarding the public’s right to hold its leaders accountable, signaling that such conduct from a government official is unacceptable to its membership.

The Women’s League is a pivotal body within the Congress for Democratic Change, dedicated to advocating for women’s issues, promoting grassroots engagement, and upholding the party’s principles of service and democratic governance.
