Temple of Justice, Monrovia — The Civil Law Court at the Temple of Justice in Monrovia has lifted an attachment and garnishment order placed on the bank accounts of former Activa International Insurance (Liberia) Managing Director, Prof. Saye Gbalazeh. The decision, handed down on Tuesday, April 7, 2026, by Judge Peter W. Gbeneweleh of the Sixth Judicial Circuit Court for Montserrado County, followed the court’s acknowledgment that the garnishment was “inadvertently issued.”
In a communication to five banking institutions, the court instructed that the restrictions placed on Prof. Gbalazeh’s accounts be immediately removed.
The garnishment order, originally issued on April 6, 2026, targeted assets totaling US$134,000. It stemmed from a legal action filed by Activa International Insurance (Liberia), which is seeking to nullify an alleged sub-lease agreement with Prof. Gbalazeh and recover funds it claims were improperly obtained.
Speaking to reporters shortly after the court’s decision, Prof. Gbalazeh welcomed the ruling and dismissed the company’s actions as unjustified.
He maintained that throughout his professional career, both in Liberia and the United States, he has upheld a clean record and contributed meaningfully to the growth of the institutions he served.
According to him, during his eight-year tenure at Activa, he helped increase the company’s revenue and fulfilled his responsibilities before stepping down from his position. Prof. Gbalazeh further alleged that the company’s actions are motivated by dissatisfaction following his resignation and previous legal outcomes in his favor.
He also claimed that prior attempts to implicate him failed after investigations by the Liberia National Police and the County Attorney reportedly found no evidence of wrongdoing. Describing the garnishment as an abuse of legal process, he suggested it may have been intended to restrict his access to funds ahead of planned travel.
