Monrovia, Liberia – The National Civil Society Union of Liberia (NACSUL) has praised the management of the National Social Security and Welfare Corporation (NASSCORP) for what it describes as “visionary leadership and institutional excellence,” following a high-profile visit by the ECOWAS Parliament to the entity.
Speaking in a statement issued Tuesday, July 15, 2025, NACSUL’s Secretary General, Andrew Kettor, said the regional lawmakers’ visit was more than symbolic — it was “a resounding endorsement of NASSCORP’s proactive governance and strategic transformation.”
Kettor noted that the ECOWAS delegation appeared impressed by what they observed, especially the Corporation’s asset portfolio, now estimated at over US$141 million.
“The ECOWAS Parliament’s engagement with NASSCORP is not just a routine visit — it is a powerful recognition of the Corporation’s leadership in social security management across the region,” Kettor emphasized.
He noted that the visiting lawmakers described NASSCORP as Liberia’s largest domestic institutional investor — a position achieved, in their view, through the farsightedness of Director General Dewitt vonBallmoos.
Under vonBallmoos’ administration, Kettor said, NASSCORP has invested in key national sectors including real estate, agriculture, medical infrastructure, and the banking industry.
“NASSCORP’s contributions to low-cost housing and the development of the Jahmale Diagnostic Medical Center show the Corporation’s commitment to national growth beyond pensions,” he stated.
Kettor also reiterated Director General vonBallmoos’ call for legislative amendments to the NASSCORP Act that would allow the institution to expand social security coverage to Liberia’s large informal workforce.
“This move will be a game-changer in social protection for thousands of Liberians who have long been excluded from formal systems,” he stressed.
Meanwhile, Kettor lauded the Corporation’s recent one-off goodwill bonus of US$50 to pensioners as part of its 50th-anniversary celebrations, describing it as “a gesture of gratitude and solidarity.”
“NASSCORP’s golden jubilee is not just a landmark — it is proof that good leadership, strategic planning, and integrity can transform public institutions,” he concluded, while reaffirming NACSUL’s full support to vonBallmoos and his team.
