-As Liberia Submits Enhanced Climate Plan to UN

MONROVIA – The Environmental Eyes Consultancy and Advocacy Firm Inc. (EECAF) has publicly commended the Liberian government and the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) for the successful submission of the country’s Third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) to the United Nations.
The submission, delivered to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), marks a significant step in Liberia’s climate action agenda under the Paris Agreement. EECAF, a local environmental advocacy group, hailed the move as a “pivotal moment” that demonstrates national commitment to combating the threats of climate change.
In a press release issued Monday, EECAF praised EPA Executive Director, Hon. Dr. Emmanuel K.Urey Yarkpawolo, for his “visionary leadership” in overseeing a consultative and data-driven process. The firm also acknowledged the technical team at the EPA for aligning national climate targets with Liberia’s development priorities.
“The NDC 3.0 submission is not only a fulfillment of Liberia’s international obligation but also a reaffirmation of the country’s recognition of climate change as a serious threat to its national development, public health, food security, and natural ecosystems,” the release stated.
The updated climate plan outlines Liberia’s strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions and building resilience across key sectors, including energy, agriculture, forestry, and health. EECAF highlighted the inclusive stakeholder engagement—involving civil society, the private sector, indigenous communities, and youth—as a key factor in ensuring the plan’s national legitimacy.
The advocacy group emphasized that the document sends a strong signal to the international community that Liberia is a serious partner in global efforts to limit warming to 1.5°C.
EECAF also pledged its support to help disseminate the NDC 3.0 across all counties, track implementation progress, promote citizen participation, and facilitate capacity-building for local stakeholders.
The group called on development partners and the private sector to provide financial and technical backing to help translate Liberia’s climate ambitions into tangible actions.
“This is a climate milestone that deserves national celebration—and a clear call to sustained action,” the release concluded.
The NDC 3.0 will now serve as Liberia’s guiding framework for accessing climate finance and implementing climate-smart policies at national and local levels.
