ACCRA, Ghana – Ghanaian police have arrested three suspects in connection with the death of a 26-year-old Liberian national who was fatally assaulted by a mob after being wrongly accused of theft, authorities said on Monday.

The victim, identified as Austin Tengeeh, died on Friday, February 27, 2026, after he was attacked by residents at an apartment complex in Lashibi, a suburb near Sakumono in the Greater Accra Region.

According to a statement from the Accra Regional Police Command, Tengeeh had visited his brother at the complex in the company of his girlfriend. The situation escalated when a caretaker raised an alarm, falsely identifying the visitor as a thief. The accusation prompted a group of residents and bystanders to confront and assault him.

A police patrol team responded to a distress call and arrived at the scene to find Tengeeh badly beaten. Officers were able to rescue him and rushed him to the Sakumono Community Hospital for emergency treatment. He was, however, pronounced dead upon arrival by the medical officer on duty.

Police have since deposited the body at the Lashibi Funeral Home, where it will remain pending an autopsy.
Three suspects are currently in police custody assisting with investigations. They have been identified as Vincent Adzikah, 38; Francis Amuzu, 44; and William Addison, 34. Authorities stated that the three would be brought before a court on Monday, March 2.

A fourth suspect, Enoch Mensah, remains at large, and police say efforts are underway to apprehend him.
In a statement, the Accra Regional Police Command cautioned the public against vigilantism and mob justice, warning that such actions are criminal offenses that undermine the rule of law.

“The Command urges members of the public to report suspected criminal conduct to the Police and allow lawful procedures to take their course,” said Superintendent Juliana Obeng, Head of Public Affairs for the Accra Region.
