In a major step toward modernizing public service delivery and strengthening revenue generation, the Ministry of Transport, in collaboration with the Liberia Revenue Authority (LRA), has officially launched the Transport Mobile Money and Visa Card Payment Platform alongside a New Automated Vehicle Registration and Driver License System.
The launch ceremony, held on Tuesday at the Executive Pavilion in Monrovia, marks what government officials describe as a new era of transparency, accountability, and efficiency within Liberia’s transport sector.
Speaking at the event, Minister of Transport Sirleaf Ralph Tyler said the automated driver’s license and vehicle registration system represents “the dawn of a new day” for land transportation in Liberia, noting that the reform digitizes all transport-related records while integrating participants from the informal sector into the formal economy.
According to Minister Tyler, the new platform allows citizens to process transport-related documents securely and conveniently from any location.
“It’s not only a system for the Ministry of Transport. You can be at your house now and renew the registration of your vehicle. This system gives us convenience right on our fingertips,” Minister Tyler stated.
He emphasized that beyond convenience, the system enhances transparency and security by tracking every document processed, adding that it is designed to meet the highest available standards.
Minister Tyler further disclosed that all revenues generated through the system will be deposited directly into an escrow account before being transferred to the Government’s consolidated account, ensuring proper accountability and fiscal discipline.
Reaffirming the Ministry’s broader mandate, he said the reform reflects the government’s commitment to financial inclusion and its obligation to serve the people of Liberia effectively.
Also speaking at the launch, Liberia Revenue Authority Commissioner General James Dorbor Jallah described the initiative as a transformative reform aimed at driving national progress.
“Today is not just another launch. It is the launch of a progress and reform that seeks to drive Liberia forward,” Commissioner Jallah said.
The LRA Commissioner disclosed that out of US$848 million collected in domestic revenue, the Ministry of Transport contributed more than US$10 million, underscoring the sector’s importance to national revenue performance.
Commissioner Jallah stressed that an efficient transport system strengthens public trust and safety, while digital payments promote accountability.
“When the transport system works for the people, citizens are safe and government earns trust. Digital payment is about building trust, not just about usage,” he asserted.
He added that citizens are more likely to comply with government regulations when systems are clear and transparent, describing the reform as one grounded in fairness and integrity.
The newly launched digital platform is expected to significantly reduce corruption, improve service delivery, and enhance government revenue collection, aligning with the administration’s broader agenda of public sector reform and good governance.
