Monrovia: The Ministry of Public Works has announced a temporary moratorium on the movement of heavy goods vehicles exceeding 25 metric tons along major unpaved primary road corridors for the duration of the 2025 rainy season. This measure, effective from July 31 to October 15, aims to protect critical road infrastructure, enhance safety, and prevent accelerated road deterioration caused by overloaded vehicles during periods of heightened vulnerability.
The restriction applies to several key routes, including the Ganta-Zwedru, Zwedru-Kanweaken, Buchanan-Greenville, Pleebo-Barclayville, Salayea-Mendikorma, and Brewerville-Bopolu corridors, spanning multiple counties. The Ministry has urged transport operators, concessionaires, and logistics firms to comply strictly with the directive, warning that violations may result in penalties under national regulations.
In preparation for enforcement, the Ministry has engaged with essential stakeholders and secured the cooperation of key institutions, including the Liberia National Police, Liberia Immigration Service, Ministry of Transport, Ministry of National Defense through the Armed Forces of Liberia, and the National Transport Union. The Ministry expresses gratitude for public and institutional support in preserving Liberia’s road networks and maintaining uninterrupted connectivity during this period.
