NIMBA COUNTY, Liberia — The Grand Jury for Nimba County, sitting in its November Term of Court, A.D. 2025 has returned a true bill — formally indicting George Armah, Darlington Weah, and Prince P. Korto for the brutal murder of Ronell Lebana Gewh, whose body was discovered in Yekepa on October 9, 2025, in Bank Quarter, Yekepa City, Nimba County
The defendants will face court trial for the commission of the crime of murder and criminal conspiracy before the 8th Judicial Circuit Court in the upcoming February Term of Court, A.D. 2026.
The indictment alleges that George Armah intentionally took the victim to his room, where he allegedly had sexual intercourse with her before she was killed.
It further states that Darlington Weah and Prince P. Korto were made aware of the killing but failed to report the incident to law enforcement authorities, thereby making them accessories to the crime under Liberian law.
According to the New Penal Code of Liberia, the defendants are being prosecuted under Sections 14.1 (Murder) and 3.1 (Criminal Conspiracy or Accessory to Crime); and all three defendants are behind bars in pretrial detention at the Sanniquellie Central Prison.
Case Narrative:
On the evening of October 8, 2025, the victim, Ronell Lebana Gewh reportedly visited an entertainment center known as “Place to Be,” in Yekepa where she encountered suspect George Armah and the two reportedly left together that night.
Tragically, the following morning, October 9, 2025, the lifeless body of Ronell Lebana Gewh was discovered in George Armah’s room. The suspect fled the scene, prompting police to launch a manhunt. Based on intelligence gathered, officers later apprehended George Armah and his two associates, Prince P. Korto and Darlington Weah, who were also linked to the case.
Case Reporting History:
Emmanuel Dipah, a resident of Bank Quarter in Yekepa, Nimba County on October 9, 2025, informed the police via phone about a foul odor in a closed-door neighbor’s house a few days ago. “That, the community members decide to carry on cleaning up campaign and at the same time check for the cause of odor,” the report States.
It adds, “That, people checked in the house’s ceiling, but did not see anything until fortunately for him, Emmanuel Dipah discovered that the odor was coming from the now suspect, George Armah’s bedroom.
That, the house belongs to Ma. Teahkpa Dahn, 63 years old, and grandma of the suspect.
That, due to the fear of reprisal, the suspect was immediately rushed to Sanniquellie for safety.”
Suspect George Armah’s Statement:
According to him, he took the now victim from an entertainment center called ” Place To Be” in Yekepa at about 1:00am to his bedroom and had sex with her that morning. “That, during the daytime, the victim was still lying in the same position without exchanging conversation. The suspect further narrated that he left the victim in the room and returned, yet she was still in the same position,” the statement discloses.
It stressed that “He informed two of his friends, Prince P. Korto, and Darlington Weah about what was going on, but their responses were “my man, that’s trouble there ooh.” Therefore, he decided to keep it to himself for a secret burial until the community discovered it.”
Community Call for Justice:
The murder of Ronell Lebana Gewh has since sent shockwaves through the Yekepa community. Residents described the incident as “horrific” and called on the government and law enforcement to ensure swift justice for the victim and her family.
“This young woman didn’t deserve to die like this,” said one resident, who asked not to be named. “We are calling on the court to deliver justice and make sure the perpetrators face the full weight of the law.”
The incident reignited public debate over the safety of women and girls across Liberia, particularly in rural and mining areas like Yekepa, where cases of sexual and gender-based violence have been on the rise.
Victim’s Family Demands Accountability:
The family of the late Ronell Lebana Gewh is outraged and demanding justice for her untimely demise.
Ronell’s mother, Irene Garpeh, and uncle, Luther Garpeh, called for a fair and transparent judicial process. “We want the Liberian Government, through the Judicial Branch, to ensure that justice is served for our loved one,” Irene Garpeh emphasized, her voice filled with emotion.
