-From their Lawmaker

The Save Our District (S.O.D) movement in Grand Kru County has issued a strong warning to District #1 Representative Nathaniel Bahway, calling for immediate action to address the pressing needs of his constituents or face organized resistance. The grassroots organization expressed deep concern over the lawmaker’s apparent prioritization of personal leisure over public service, noting his frequent presence at Monrovia entertainment venues while critical district matters remain neglected.
SOD spokesperson Thomas Nimely revealed growing frustration among constituents who struggle to access their representative, as Bahway has failed to establish a proper district office in Grand Kru County, forcing residents to seek him out at nightclubs and social spots in the capital. The movement highlighted the complete absence of a functional District Development Council, which has stalled all development projects in the area, leaving infrastructure crumbling and public services underfunded.
The group specifically accused Bahway of practicing nepotism in his office appointments while ignoring qualified candidates from across the district. They also condemned his poor attendance record in legislative sessions, where he has allegedly failed to advocate for District #1’s interests. With visible anger mounting among voters, SOD delivered an ultimatum: the representative must immediately establish a district office, form the long-delayed Development Council, and commence tangible projects within six months or face mass protests and recall efforts.
The statement appealed to all sectors of society – including religious leaders, youth groups, market women, and civil society organizations – to unite in demanding accountability. They emphasized this would be Bahway’s final term if he fails to demonstrate significant improvement in service delivery. SOD vowed to continue its advocacy through lawful means until the district receives proper representation and development. This growing discontent reflects wider frustrations in rural Liberia about absentee lawmakers who neglect their constituencies after elections. The situation in Grand Kru’s District #1 has become emblematic of the need for stronger accountability measures to ensure elected officials fulfill their mandates. As the six-month deadline looms, all eyes will be on whether Representative Bahway heeds this wake-up call or faces the consequences of an increasingly organized and determined electorate.
