-Following Ministry of Finance Claims

Monrovia, Liberia – Guaranty Trust Bank (Liberia) Ltd has denied responsibility for delays in the payment of civil servant salaries, directly contradicting the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning, which earlier Thursday blamed the Bank for the holdup.

The Bank’s statement on Thursday came shortly after the Ministry of Finance expressed concern earlier in the day over delays attributed to GTBank in the disbursement of government employee salaries. According to the Ministry, funds for the payments had already been remitted, but the Bank was reportedly facing ongoing technical challenges affecting its systems, thereby disrupting timely access to salaries for civil servants receiving payments through the institution.

In its response, GTBank Liberia categorically rejected claims that it was responsible for the delays, stating that reports linking the Bank to the situation were “inaccurate and misleading.” “The Bank confirms that, as of this time, the funds for the referenced civil servant salary payments have not been received through the appropriate clearing channels for disbursement,” the Bank said. “Consequently, the Bank is not in a position to process or credit these salaries to beneficiaries’ accounts.”

GTBank Liberia maintained that it remains fully committed to processing all salary payments promptly and efficiently, adding that disbursements would begin immediately upon receipt of duly cleared funds from the relevant authorities. The Bank urged the public and its customers to disregard what it described as misinformation and to rely solely on verified updates from official Bank communication channels.

Reaffirming its commitment to service delivery, GTBank Liberia stated that it continues to uphold the highest standards of transparency and professionalism.
As of Thursday evening, the Ministry of Finance and Development Planning had not issued a further statement in response to the Bank’s clarification.
