– After Brief Illness

Monrovia– The House of Representatives has announced with profound sadness the passing of its Deputy Chief Clerk, Mr. C. Comicks Chea Sr., fondly referred to as “DCC” by colleagues. The veteran legislative officer died in the early hours of Sunday, June 1, 2025, at 2:00 AM, at St. Joseph Catholic Hospital, following a sudden illness.  

Mr. Chea remained actively engaged in his duties until his final moments. Just three days before his passing, on Thursday, May 30, he participated in a legislative session and later returned to his office, where he suddenly collapsed. Immediate medical attention was provided, and he was rushed to the hospital, where he remained under care until his peaceful transition.  

With a career spanning multiple legislative terms, Mr. Chea was a pillar of institutional knowledge and professionalism. He first served as a Senior Stenographer during the 54th Legislature before being elected Deputy Chief Clerk in the current 55th Legislature.In this role, he was widely respected for his unwavering integrity, deep expertise, and humble leadership.  

Lawmakers and staff remembered him as a dedicated public servant whose contributions to legislative processes were invaluable. His commitment to duty, mentorship of junior staff, and calm demeanor earned him admiration across the political spectrum.  

In an official statement, the House of Representatives described Mr. Chea as a “consummate professional and patriotic servant” whose work strengthened Liberia’s governance. His passing leaves a void in the legislative branch, where his institutional memory and leadership were deeply relied upon.  

The House leadership is coordinating with the bereaved family to finalize funeral arrangements, which will be communicated to the public in due course.  The Speaker and members of the House of Representatives extended their deepest sympathies to Mr. Chea’s family, friends, and colleagues. They called for prayers and support during this difficult time, asking for divine comfort for all who mourn his loss.  

“The Honorable House has lost not just an officer, but a brother, a mentor, and a true patriot. His legacy will endure in the halls where he served with such distinction,” the statement read.
