-For FY2025 First Quarter Revenue Performance

Monrovia – The House of Representatives Committee on Ways, Means and Finance has unveiled a comprehensive schedule for its First Quarter FY2025 Budget Revenue Performance Public Hearings, marking a critical step in the Legislature’s oversight of national finances.

Scheduled to commence on Wednesday, June 11 at 10:00 AM in the Capitol Building’s First Floor Conference Room, the hearings will span six days of intense scrutiny of Liberia’s key revenue-generating institutions. The Legislative Budget Office (LBO) will facilitate the proceedings designed to evaluate fiscal performance and ensure accountability in public financial management.

The hearings will follow a structured agenda. Day 1 (June 11) features the Ministry of Finance & Development Planning and Liberia Revenue Authority (10AM-12PM), followed by the National Port Authority (12:30PM-1:30PM) and Liberia Telecommunications Authority (1:30PM-2:30PM). Day 2 (June 13) examines maritime and energy sectors with the Liberia Maritime Authority (10AM-11AM), Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (11AM-12PM), and National Fisheries Authority (12PM-1PM), concluding with infrastructure agencies in the afternoon.

Subsequent days will probe ministries and agencies responsible for natural resources, transportation, justice, commerce, and environmental protection

Committee Chairman Hon. P. Mike Jury emphasized that these hearings fulfill constitutional mandates for legislative oversight. “These sessions aren’t routine appearances,” the Chairman stated through the House Press Bureau. “They represent our solemn duty to ensure every dollar collected serves the Liberian people effectively.”

The hearings’ climax comes on June 25 when the Committee will synthesize findings into a comprehensive plenary report. Director Amb. Robert Benjamin Haynes confirmed this document will inform potential policy adjustments and budget realignments for the remainder of the fiscal year.

Civil society organizations and media institutions are particularly encouraged to attend, with provisions made for public participation during designated intervals. The schedule allocates specific time blocks for each agency’s presentation and subsequent questioning – a structure designed to maximize efficiency while ensuring thorough examination.

This initiative builds on recent reforms strengthening the Legislature’s budget oversight capabilities. The current hearings mark the first quarterly review under the FY2025 budget, establishing a benchmark for subsequent assessments. The House Press Bureau reaffirmed the Legislature’s commitment to open governance, stating: “These hearings embody our pledge that public funds warrant public examination.”
