Nimba County, Liberia  – The Liberia National Police (LNP), through the Joint Security team in Nimba County, has arrested twenty-three individuals in connection with the illegal possession and discharge of firearms in communities within Tappita District.

According to an LNP press release issued on March 7, 2026, and signed by Deputy Commissioner for Press and Public Affairs, Sam K. Collins, the arrests follow complaints from residents of New Toe’s Town and Unification Town. Community members reported that a group of men had been seen in nearby bushes discharging single-barrel guns, killing cattle, and taking property belonging to residents.

In response to these complaints, the release stated that the Joint Security team convened a meeting and resolved to immediately launch a fact-finding operation in the affected areas.

During the operation, security personnel moved into the communities and successfully apprehended twenty-three suspects believed to be connected to the reported incidents. The Joint Security team also recovered several items, including ten single-barrel guns, eight cutlasses, and five empty gun shells, all believed to have been used in the alleged criminal activities.

“All suspects are currently in police custody undergoing investigation, while efforts continue to establish the full circumstances surrounding the matter,” the police statement noted.

The Liberia National Police assured residents of Tappita District and surrounding communities that it remains committed to maintaining peace, protecting lives and property, and ensuring that anyone found in violation of the law is brought to justice. The LNP encouraged citizens to continue cooperating with security authorities by reporting suspicious activities in their communities.
