
Monrovia, Liberia – The United States Embassy in Liberia announced on August 4, 2025, that Joseph E. Zadrozny, a seasoned career diplomat, has assumed the role of Chargé d’Affaires, ad interim, effective August 2025. A distinguished member of the Senior Foreign Service, Zadrozny brings over two decades of diplomatic experience to his new position, including leadership roles across Asia, Africa, and Europe.
Zadrozny arrived in Liberia in July 2025 as Deputy Chief of Mission before stepping into the top diplomatic role. His extensive career includes serving as Management Counselor at the U.S. Embassy in Abuja, Nigeria (2023–2025), where he oversaw critical operations. Prior to Nigeria, he acted as Chargé d’Affaires in Port Moresby, Papua New Guinea, with concurrent accreditation to the Solomon Islands and Vanuatu (2022–2023). His earlier postings featured high-profile assignments in China, including Consul General in Wuhan and postings in Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenyang.
With a career spanning multiple continents, Zadrozny has also served at U.S. embassies in Berlin and Frankfurt, Germany; Tashkent, Uzbekistan; and Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia. Before joining the State Department in 1998, he contributed to global development as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Mongolia and later as a staff member in Washington, D.C., and Honiara, Solomon Islands.
A polyglot fluent in French, Mandarin Chinese, German, Mongolian, and Russian, Zadrozny holds a master’s degree in strategic studies from the U.S. Army War College and an undergraduate degree from the University of Notre Dame. A native of Houston, Texas, he is recognized for his strategic acumen and commitment to strengthening U.S. diplomatic ties worldwide. In his new role, Zadrozny will lead the U.S. Mission in Liberia, advancing bilateral cooperation on security, governance, and economic development.
