Monrovia: Former House Speaker Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa’s lawyers have given the Bukonjadeh Group of Companies five days to either produce documented evidence of the alleged debt or issue a full public retraction, following public accusations that he failed to repay a US$12,500 loan.
The dispute stems from a Punch TV Live broadcast in which Bukonjadeh CEO Elton Johns claimed Koffa borrowed the money in 2024 but refused to repay it. In response, Koffa’s attorneys, Kurtoshna Mary and Safiuah-Mai Gray, challenged the allegations in an August 14 letter, calling them defamatory and demanding proof.
The lawyers insisted that Bukonjadeh must provide a signed loan agreement, payment records, or any communication confirming the transaction. If the company cannot substantiate its claim, they must retract the statement with the same prominence as the original broadcast. Failure to comply, the letter warns, will result in legal action, including a defamation suit.
The public nature of the allegations has drawn attention to Koffa’s financial dealings, raising questions about accountability and reputational damage.
