Monrovia, – Immediate past Speaker of the House of Representatives, Cllr. J. Fonati Koffa, has joined his fellow lawmakers in the main chamber for the election of a new Speaker.
The election follows Koffa’s resignation after months of leadership disputes within the House.
During Tuesday’s session, 68 lawmakers are present, with approximately four absent.
The Honorable House of Representatives officially acknowledged receipt of Koffa’s resignation letter on Monday, May 12, 2025.
In compliance with its constitutional mandate and in the interest of the Republic of Liberia, the House convened on Tuesday, May 13, 2025, marking the first day of its 2nd Quarter session, to conduct a fresh election for the Speakership.
All eligible members were encouraged to formally declare their candidacy, with assurances of an open, fair, and transparent electoral process.
