The interim leadership of the Liberia Drugs Enforcement Agency (LDEA) has announced the immediate launch of a compulsory nationwide drug test for all officers of the agency. The disclosure was made on Monday, September 1, 2025, during the official taking over of the new interim leadership.

According to the OIC of the Liberia Drug Enforcement Agency (LDEA), DCP Fitzgerald T.M. Biago, the move marks the beginning of sweeping reforms aimed at restoring integrity, discipline, and accountability within the institution tasked with leading Liberia’s fight against narcotics. “All those leading the war against drugs must themselves be beyond reproach,” Biago said.

He stressed that no officer will be exempt from the mandatory urinalysis tests. Substances to be screened include marijuana, kush, cocaine, heroin, amphetamines, and opioids. DCP Fitzgerald T.M. Biago warned that any officer refusing to comply with the directive will face administrative and punitive measures, while positive results will trigger further investigation and possible disciplinary action.

Moreover, he said the nationwide testing exercise is intended not only to clean up the agency internally but also to set the tone for a more aggressive crackdown on drug trafficking and abuse across Liberia.
In the coming weeks, the LDEA says it will intensify its operations, targeting major sources of drug trafficking and distribution. A special Anti-Drugs Hotline will also be launched to allow citizens to provide intelligence to support operations.

The new leadership reaffirmed its commitment to working closely with the Liberia National Police and other members of the Joint Security, pledging transparency and accountability as it discharges its mandate. Meanwhile, the agency has issued a stern warning to traffickers and distributors: “The time of impunity is over. The LDEA will pursue you relentlessly, prosecute you vigorously, and ensure that justice is served,” the newly appointed OIC at LDEA Commissioner Fitzgeray . T. M Biago said.
