Several Liberians have applauded volunteers for their collective initiative to Clean the city of Monrovia and its Environs.Recently, citizens from all walks of life including community groups, youth organizations, and individuals are actively seen participating in a clean-up process across various communities in Monrovia. The initiative by the group is their own way of contributing to the beautification of the city.

In an interview with several residents in Monrovia, they expressed gratitude to the group of Liberians for their time and efforts to Clean up the city. “The volunteers are doing and we pray they should continue with this good initiative. We are really admiring them these few days and they are really working”, said Victoria Toby, a resident of Monrovia.

Benjamin Saye, speaking to WomenVoices said that the group of volunteers have been doing very well. He says the responsibility has been placed upon the citizens to maintain what they(Volunteers) are doing. Saye frowned upon Liberians who are in the habit of giving dirt to the disadvantages youth to grow away.

According to him, the disadvantaged youths will collect money from people from one street to the other and when they are given the dirt they drop it in the streets and go their way and that is one reason the dirt is all over the city.

“Every Liberian has been affected by the dirt on the street in recent times and we have been saying that each seller should have a trash can or basket so that their customers or passers-by can dispose of the dirt in it, I believe this is help to curtail the dirt in the street”, Saye indicated.

For his part, Risdso Osaka Duo said Liberians are not Cleaning the street for Amb. Boakai but for their health.

“People are using the disadvantaged youth to throw dirt away and this is one of the serious reasons the dirt has taken over the streets secondly, there is no trash cane in the street for people to get rid of the dirt.

Duo cautioned that there should be at least one basket at every streets or intersection in Monrovia for people to throw dirt.

Meanwhile, Duo indicated that the people are cleaning the street but they notice that trucks are not available to take the dirt away which is challenging for them.

He applauded the group for their selfless initiative and call on other liberians to do the same by taking the steps to Clean their business areas and not to wait for others to come and it for them.Duo also urged mineral water factories to start thinking about recycling water plastics like in other countries because plastics have taken over the streets.
