The Liberian National Bar Association (LNBA) has officially endorsed the nomination of His Honor Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay as Chief Justice of the Honorable Supreme Court of Liberia.

President Boakai on Monday, June 30, 2025, formally announced the nomination of Associate Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay to serve as Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia, pending confirmation by the Liberian Senate.

President Boakai in his nomination described the Associate Justice as: “A distinguished jurist [who] has demonstrated exemplary integrity, profound legal acumen, and a steadfast commitment to upholding the rule of law and the Constitution.”  

Meanwhile, the Liberia National Bar through its National President, Cllr. Bornor M. Varmah, described the nomination by President Joseph Nyuma Boakai as “appropriate, expedient, and legally prudent,” noting it as a progressive step for judicial continuity, integrity, and institutional excellence.

Justice Gbeisay, who has served the judiciary as Relieving Judge and Associate Justice, was praised for his dedication to the rule of law and his steady rise through the judicial ranks. “His elevation to the role of Chief Justice is a natural progression of his remarkable legal career,” the Bar stated

The LNBA also commended President Boakai for demonstrating what it described as wisdom and discernment in choosing Justice Gbeisay, whom they said possesses the stature and judicial temperament befitting the office. The Association urged the Liberian Senate to confirm the nominee swiftly, particularly as current Chief Justice Sie-A-Nyene Yuoh approaches mandatory retirement at age 70.

As Justice Gbeisay prepares to assume the judiciary’s highest position, the Bar conveyed its best wishes for a “successful and impactful tenure,” expressing confidence that the judiciary under his leadership will continue to uphold justice, constitutionalism, and the rights of all Liberians.

Justice Yamie Quiqui Gbeisay is a seasoned Liberian jurist with a distinguished career spanning several decades in the legal and judicial landscape of Liberia. He has served in multiple capacities, including as a Relieving Judge, Circuit Court Judge, and most recently as an Associate Justice of the Supreme Court of Liberia. His legal journey reflects a steady progression marked by dedication, competence, and a profound respect for the rule of law.

Justice Gbeisay is widely respected for his deep understanding of legal principles and his unwavering commitment to justice.
