ZWEDRU, Grand Gedeh County – The five-day-old baby boy who was abducted from the Martha Tubman Memorial Hospital has been found alive and is now safe, authorities confirmed. The infant was recovered by officers of the Liberia National Police (LNP) Zwedru Detachment, bringing a hopeful conclusion to a frantic, day-long search that had gripped the country.
The ordeal began in the early hours of Sunday, November 16, 2025, when an unidentified individual, described as a person wearing a hijab, unlawfully entered the hospital’s infant ward and took the newborn. The Ministry of Health had issued a nationwide alert, mobilizing health officials and law enforcement in a desperate race against time to locate the child.
The family of the infant has confirmed the child’s safe recovery, expressing immense gratitude to the police and the public. While official details regarding the location and condition of the baby are still emerging, his return marks the most critical milestone in the case.
However, the successful resolution of one crisis now pivots to the next: the urgent manhunt for the perpetrator. The Ministry of Health’s initial statement outlined that the suspect was “described as a person wearing a hijab at the time of the incident.” This description is now the focal point of an intensified investigation led by the LNP.
Authorities have affirmed that the joint investigation, which was launched immediately after the abduction was reported, remains fully active and is now concentrated on apprehending the individual responsible. Officials had previously expressed “profound concern for the infant’s welfare” and prioritized the “apprehension of the perpetrator,” a mission that continues with renewed vigor.
